Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is one of the most popular trekking trails in the Annapurna Region which offers you magnificent views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal and Manasalu Himalayas. It is one of the short treks in the Annapurna Region. Even beginner trekkers can manage this trek. Physically you don’t not need to be very fit for this trip. The main attraction of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is Poon Hill (3210 m) – a beautiful viewpoint for watching sunrise and a panoramic view of Himalayas.

Easy trek from Pokhara

A forest trail through rhododendrons forest

This trek is considered easy though there are a few challenging steep ups and downs. The scenery makes the trek worth doing. If the weather is favourable you will have one of the best, memorable holidays of a lifetime. During the trip you will learn more about Nepalese culture and see the difficult conditions in which local people live in the mountains. The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek starts from Pokhara after a 1.5 h scenic drive to Nayapool and it ends in a return trip on the last day of the trek.

01 Day

Arrival in Kathmandu

(1350 m), pick up from the airport and transfer to hotel, welcome dinner and trip briefing in the evening (D)

The service of Nepal Excursion Treks for the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek begins after your landing in the Kathmandu airport. As soon as you finished the formalities of Nepal Visa, you have to proceed towards luggage claim desk and receive your luggage then take the exit through arrival hall where our airport representative is waiting to pick you up holding the Nepal Excursion Treks airport display board. Our airport representative will welcome you with seasonal flower garland and then drive to the hotel where will be staying. We will finish the administrative formalities after you are in hotel then we will meet in the evening for the welcome dinner organized in typical cultural restaurant. You will be serve the most popular few different dishes during your welcome dinner

Drive or fly to Pokhara

(6-7 hrs drive or 25 minutes flight, 850 m), Evening time excursion around Fewa Lake and city (B)

Pokhara has access with road and air so depending on your interests and budget we will plan the transfer by drive or flight to Pokhara. The drive usually takes 6-7 hours but some time there is possibility of traffic and can take longer time than we expected however the country side drive is scenic and have possibility to see the diverse landscapes and Himalayas. Flight as well is scenic too and it takes only 25 minutes to get to Pokhara. While taking the flight you can save your time and on the same day you have short excursion around Pokhara or even start the trek on the same day too if have strict schedule for holiday. Pokhara is the second largest city of Nepal surrounded by Annapurna Himalaya range and Phewa Lake on side. It is very nice place for rest and relaxing. In a clear weather Himalayas are seen from your hotel. Our day to day plan will be same till Tadapani as the Annapurna Panorama Trek

Drive to Nayapool

(1070 m, 90 minutes) and trek to Tikhedhunga (1540 m, 4 hrs) (B, L, D)

Today we will start our day with the drive to Nayapool.The drive offer nice view of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal as well with nice landscape of Pokhara surroundings. As soon as we finished our drive we will start the trek from Nayapool. From the trek we do not have much view of mountains but still the local villages, river and hills are cheering the day. The trail to our destination today Tikhedhunga is more gradual ascending and most of the part we will be walking though the motor road. About an hour of walk from Nayapool we will reach to Birethanti where we have to register your trekking permits in the check post and we will continue our trek .Tikhedhunga is a small village with few teahouse and lies on side of Bhurunggdi Khola. We can walk to river and stay in silence of nature with the glance to waterfall and relax after we reached the today goal to Tikhedhunga.

Trek to Ghorepani

(2860 m, 6-7 hrs) (B, L, D)

Ghorepani is one of the most pretty town of Annapurna region that is facing to the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. The trail today is very steep ascending with the rewarding scenery and considered as quite demanding day. We have to ascend today about 1300 meters though the villages and Rhododendron forest. On the way there are few places with tea houses. During spring time the walk is even nicer due to blooming of different colors of rhododendrons. Just after an hour of start of the trek Annapurna South and Fishtail Mountain will greet you and as high as you go the scenery are just fantastic. Ghorepani is quite busy with tourists because those who are going to Annapurna Base Camp, Annapurna Panorama Trek and the longer trip of Annapurna circuit trek also plan their stay here to not miss the panoramic view from Poon Hill.

Early morning

hike to Poon Hill (3210 m) to see the sunrise and panorama of mountains and landscapes then continue trek to Tadapani (2630 m, 5-6 hrs) (B, L, D)

This day we wake up early to see the sunrise and panoramic view of Himalayas from Poon Hill (3210 meter). Our 45 minutes’ walk take us to the one of the scenic point of Annapurna region trek from where we can see Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 m),  Tokuche peak(6920 m), Nilgiri South (6839 m), Baraha Sikha (7647 m), Annapurna I (8091 m),South Annapurna (7219 m), Himchuli (6434 m), Machhapuchhre (6997 m), Annapurna IV (7525 m), Annapurna II (7937), Lamjung Himal (6983 m), Manaslu (8156 m) and beautiful landscape. After spending some time and enjoying the views, we will descend to Ghorepani and continue our trek to Tadapani. There are few ascends and descends along the day trip to Tadapani and the most part of the trail today is passing though rhododendron forests as well. Annapurna South, Himchuli and Fishtail are seen from Tadapani.

Trek to Ghandruk Village

(1940 m, 3-4 hrs), after lunch at tea house excursion to Gurung village and cultural museum (B, L, D)

We will start the steep descending trail to Ghandruk Village though Rhododendron forest. From Tadapani there are trails for Khopra Danda Trek, Annapurna Base Camp and towards Ghandruk on the right side.  The walk to Ghandruk with very quiet through thick rhododendron forests and we can see possibly some wild birds and Languor more often. Ghandruk is the biggest village of Gurung tribe of people and rich in cultural and tradition. Ghandruk is also located in a scenic point that offer the view of Annapurna South, Himchili and Machhapuchhre . We will take the short excursion in Ghadruk village and Guruing Cultural Museum.

Trek to Nayapool

(1070 m, 3-4 hours) and drive back to Pokhara (B, L)

The tail to Nayapool today is mostly descending and through motor road. We can take the local jeep drive from Ghandruk to Pokhara directly as well. From Syauli Bazar our trail till Nayapool is on side of Modi River. We will see the rice terrace field, orange farm and domestic cattle goats, buffaloes, cows, chickens on you walk to Nayapool. Once we finish the trek in Nayapool we will drive to Pokhara.

Full day of sightseeing

in Pokhara - visit to the Davis Fall, Gupteshowor Cave, International mountain museum and an hour of boating in Fewa Lake (B)

After the breakfast we begin our sightseeing tour in Pokhara. We will take you to the most popular places that you should not miss during your stay in Pokhara. While visiting Davis fall you can see the nice water fall that started from the water of Phewa Lake passing through the deep rocky gorge. After Davis fall we than begin our tour to Tibetan refugee camp which is the place where many refugee were staying during the crisis in Tibet in 1950 and now there is small carpet and blanket knitting industry run by the Tibetans. In the International mountain museum you can see the diverse culture of different ethnics group of people and about the international mountains and mountaineers. Those who have more time can visit to Peace Stupa and Sarangkot for sunrise. Pokhara its self is very peaceful and clean city of Nepal and for those who have few spare days can extend their stay for rest and relax

Kathmandu

Drive or fly back to Kathmandu (B) m

Depending on the plan after breakfast we will plan the mode of transport to back to Kathmandu. As the drive can take 6-7 hours though country side road and traffic can make the time longer too for what we have to be prepared. If you do not want to spend long time on drive than we will arrange the flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu which is about 25 minutes flight and the Free time in Kathmandu you can spend on hanging around Thamel or visit the garden of dreams

Guided sightseeing tour

in the UNSECO world heritage site of Kathmandu- visit to the Swyambunath, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanth and Kathmandu Durbar Square (B)

Now your sightseeing tour in the Kathmandu will give you difference experience than what you have experienced in trek. Mostly you will see the historical palaces built in 16-17 century that are listed in UNESCO world heritage site. It is an opportunity to see the ancient carving and archaeology facts of Nepal. These places are surrounded by Hindus and Buddhist monuments.  to Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square, farewell dinner in the evening (B, D)

The interesting and historical both cities Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Square have ancient palaces built with antique carving and many Hindus temples are staying surrounding. During your sightseeing here you can also see the typical Newari culture. There is a pottery square in Bhaktapur and we can see how the household clay pots are prepared. Patan is more popular for producing antique handcraft products and metal statues. Both cities Bhaktapur and Patan are less crowded city than Kathmandu.
