Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The Annapurna Base Camp trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal. It is alternatively known as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek. Every year over 60,000 trekkers make this trip. With regard to the stunning view of the mountains, beautiful landscapes, rhododendron forests blooming in spring and Gurung villages, it is one of the nicest trek of Nepal. The highest peak of the Annapurna is 8091 m named Annapurna I is the tenth highest peak out of the fourteen highest peaks of the world. We can see the closest view of Annapurna I and its glacier including several other stunning peaks from the Annapurna Base Camp. Once we are in Annapurna Base Camp we are surrounded by mountains from every side and you have the feelings like you can touch them! Annapurna massive has thirteen peaks over 7000 meters and sixteen peaks over 6000 m . The Annapurna I is considered as of the most technical mountain to climb and the first ascent was made by the  team led by Maurice Herzog in 1950. Annapurna Base Camp is also the ideal point for climbers who make their expedition to several snow capped peaks of Annapurna.

The trek to Annapurna Base Camp starts after a 90 minute drive from Pokhara. The lowland trail leads along the Modi River through nice villages and rice fields. This trek can be a little bit challenging for beginners in connection with stone stairs going up and down but you will find it worth doing once beautiful scenery is  around you. Once you are in the Annapurna Base Camp, you can have the closest view of Mt. Annapurna I (8091 m), Bharaha Chuli (7647 m), South Annapurna (7219 m), Machhapuchhre (6997 m) and Singha Chuli (6501 m). Apart from this, a beautiful sunrise and a panoramic view of the mountain range from Poon Hill including Mt. Dhaulagiri (8172 m) make this trek even more attractive. TREK ROUTE PLAN

Day
01 Day

Arrival in Kathmandu (1350 m), pick up from the airport and transfer to hotel, welcome dinner in the evening (D)

The first day of Annapurna Base Camp trek trip begin with your flight landing in Kathmandu airport. You have to finish the immigration formalities for getting Nepal visa and head towards luggage receiving point and after luggage is being received than continue toward arrival hall exit where our airport representative will be waiting to receive you. Our representative will welcome you with season flower garland and then we drive to hotel, complete the official formalities and welcome dinner in the evening if it is in the plan

02 Day

Drive to Pokhara (850 m, 6-7 hrs) or fly to Pokhara (25 minutes) (B)

There is both possibility of drive and flight to get to Pokhara. Depending on your interest we plan the means of transport to Pokhara. The drive is scenic and beautiful as well to see the local villages, country side of Nepal and Annapurna Himalayas however some time we have to be prepared for big traffic can take more than 6-7 hours too. Getting to Pokhara by flight needs only 25 minutes and flight is scenic too with mountain views and landscapes. After reaching the Pokhara and you can take rest or take a short walk around this beautiful city of Nepal surrounded by mountains and lake.

Drive to Nayapool (1070 m, 90 minutes) and trek to Tikhedhunga (1540 m, 3-4 hrs), (B, L, D)

We will start our drive to Nayapool after the breakfast in Pokhara hotel. The drive to Nayapool is very scenic with the stunning view of Annapurna Himalaya range and landscape. Usually the drive is for one and half hour though the country side road. Once we reached in Nayapool – the small country side town, then we will start our first day of the trek to Tikhedhunga of Annapurna Base Camp trek. Today most part of the trail is though motor road. After about half an hour of trek from Nayapool, we will reach to Birethanti where we have to stop and register the TIMS and Annapurna Conservation Area permit for trekkers. The trail today mostly are along the side of Bhurungdi Khola (river). We will see more the villages and country side landscapes on this day

Trek to Ghorepani (2860 m, 6-7 hrs), (B, L, D)

 Today we have quite demanding and beautiful day.Since the start of the day we will have almost all the trail is steep ascending of stone stairs. We will gain about 1325 meters of altitude today. Especially the first part till Banthanti can be quite challenging for most of the trekkers who do not have prior hiking experience but manageable even for the beginners. The view of South Annapurna, Himchuli and Machhapuchhree will be welcoming you during the most part of the trail and once we reached at Ghorepani, the panoramic view of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalaya make you feel worth of your effort of reaching Ghorepani. Ghorepani is the small town surrounded by thick rhododendron and oak trees forest.

Early morning hike to Poon Hill (3210 m) and trek to Tadapani (2630 m, 5-6 hrs), (B, L, D)

 Early morning we will hike up to Poon Hill (3210 m) which is very popular view point of Annapurna Conservation Area to see the sunrise and panoramic view of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayas range. When the sunrise is over than we will descend to Ghorepani and prepare for our day to Tadapani. The trail leads few ups and downs though rhododendron forest. Tadapani is another small village located in the scenic point of Annapurna South, Himchuli and Machhapuchhre peaks of Annapurna region. During the spring time all these forest looks colorful of blooming different colors of rhododendrons.

Trek to Upper Sinuwa (2300 m, 6-7 hrs), (B, L, D)

 As high as we go the villages are getting smaller and smaller as the less inhabitants, Our day begin with the 800 meters steep descending to Kimrong Khola and on wards few ascending and descending. We will pass the agriculture farms and small villages during our walk to Upper Sinuwa. The Annapurna Himalayas range are welcoming the day from the most part of our trail. Chomrong village and the view seen of Annapurna Himalayas is going to be the most highlight of the day today. After Chomrong village we will have about three hours of walk to Upper Sinuwa that include an hour of steep descending to Chomrong Khola and another two hours of ascending.

Trek to Himalaya (2930 m, 6-7 hrs), (B, L, D)

 Today our walk is slightly easier comparing to last few days as the trail doesn't have so much of steep ascending and descending. Most of the day we will be walking though forests on gradual ascending with some short descending trail. As we will be walking between two high hills we do not have much view of Annapurna Himalayas today but still Machhapuchhre can be seen from some parts of the trail. There are few wild hives around the Himalaya on the rocky wall of hill.

Trek to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) ( 3700 m, 6-7 hrs), (B, L, D)

 Trail to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is mostly gradual ascending however there is short descending from Hinku Cave to Deurali. We will be passing avalanche area and the views today are great and Machhapuchhre Mountain is very closely seen from Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The sun set over Machhapuchhre seen from Machhapuchhre Base Camp is considered as one of the most scenic view. After the day is finish and if we are not tired we can go for short side walk around  Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The Annapurna Himalayas range are seen from Machhapuchhre Base Camp as well

Early morning hike to Annapurna Base Camp (4130 M) and descend to Dovan (2600 m, 5-6 hrs), (B, L, D)

 Today we are going the final destination of the trip to Annapurna Base Camp. We will start out hike in the morning to not miss the sunrise over Annapurna I (8091 m) and panoramic view of Himalayas. Once we are in Annapurna Base Camp we are surrounded by Annapurna Himalaya range from every side. The view seen from Annapurna Base Camp is just incredible! Probably this is going to be the best vacation in your life time trip. We will spend some time at Annapurna Base Camp and continue our descending way back to Dovan. The trail is descending mostly all the way to Dovan from Annapurna Base Camp

Trek to Jhinu Danda (1780 m, 6-7 hrs), visit natural hot spring at Jhinu. (B, L, D)

 The descending trail till Chomrong is the same as we took while ascending. Mostly we have to descend however an hour of steep ascending from Chomrong Khola to Chomrong village can make you feel slightly tough after few days of ascending and descending. From Chomrong an hour of steep descending will take you the Jhinu Danda and after some time of rest we will hike to Hot Spring and interested may enjoy the bath. The trail to Hot spring is about 30 minutes of descending from Jhinu Danda and the coming way back need about 45 minutes of ascending

Trek to Tolkha (1700 m, 6-7 hrs),  (B, L, D) 

 The first part of the trail till New Bridge is steep descending and from New Bridge to Landruk village is ascending. We have to cross the suspension bridge over Modi Khola to get to Landruk. Landruk is one of the big Gurung tribe people inhabitant village.  From Landruk we have mostly gradual ascending and descending to Tolkha village. We can still see the Annapurna Himalayas range from Tolkha too as well however the distance not as close from Annapurna Base Camp.

Trek to Phedi (1130 m, 6-7 hrs) and drive back to Pokhara ( 45 minutes), (B, L, D)

 Today we will be walking most of the part through road. On our descending trail to Phedi we will be passing small Gurung villages Deurali, Pothana and Dhampus where few tea houses and nice scenery of Annapurna’s range are. The last part of the trail from Dhampus to Phedi is very steep descending for an hour. Once we reach in Phedi then we will drive back to Pokhara. It is the end of the trek and now time for another adventure to start sightseeing the city.

Sightseeing in Pokhara,

visit to the Davis fall, Gupteshowor cave, Tibetan Refugee Camp and International mountain museum and free afternoon (B)

After the breakfast we begin our sightseeing tour in Pokhara. We will take you to the most popular places that you should not miss during your stay in Pokhara. While visiting Davis fall you can see the nice water fall that started from the water of Phewa Lake passing through the deep rocky gorge. After Davis fall we than begin our tour to Tibetan refugee camp which is the place where many refugee were staying during the crisis in Tibet in 1950 and now there is small carpet and blanket knitting industry run by the Tibetans. In the International mountain museum you can see the diverse culture of different ethnics group of people and about the international mountains and mountaineers. Those who have more time can visit to Peace Stupa and Sarangkot for sunrise. Pokhara its self is very peaceful and clean city of Nepal and for those who have few spare days can extend their stay for rest and relax.

Drive or fly back to Kathmandu (B)

Depending on the plan after breakfast we will plan the mode of transport to back to Kathmandu. As we mentioned before drive can take 6-7 hours though country side road and traffic can make the time even longer too for what we have to be prepared. If you do not want to spend long time on drive than we will arrange the flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu.  Free time in Kathmandu you can spend on hanging around Thamel or visit the garden of dreams.

Sightseeing in Kathmandu,

visit to the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swyambunath, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath (B)

Now your sightseeing tour in Kathmandu will give you difference experience than what you have experienced in trek. Mostly you will see the historical palaces built in 16-17 century that are listed in UNESCO world heritage site. It is an opportunity to see the ancient carving and archaeology facts of Nepal. These places are surrounded by Hindus and Buddhist monuments. It is definitely going to be interesting day!

Sightseeing

in the Bhaktapaur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square (B)

The interesting and historical both cities Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Square have ancient palaces built with antique carving and many Hindus temples are staying surrounding. During your sightseeing here you can also see the typical Newari culture. There is a pottery square in Bhaktapur and we can see how the  household clay pots are prepared.
