Bardia National Park was established in 1988 and it has a total area of 968 km2. It is one of the most protected national parks of Nepal in the southern part. Like the Chitwan National Park it used to be the hunting grounds for the ruling family of Nepal before the conservation rule was enacted. The Bardia Wildlife Safari Tour is very popular among travellers because it is a home for more than 600 species of wildlife. It is less crowded compared to the Chitwan National Park, though it takes a long time to get here. There is always more possibility to see even a tiger during the elephant safari or a jungle walk in the Bardia National Park apart from other wildlife species such as deer, rhinos, crocodiles, and many different species of birds and animals. The six-day long trek (5 nights) covers most attractions in this national park. In winter many birds from Siberia and from the west migrate to the Bardia National Park.
